FDR’s Infection Control Procedures have been put together as a guide to assist in complying with OSHA’s Bloodborne Pathogens Standard, 29 CFR 1910.1030. In order to develop an effective and comprehensive exposure control plan, we have added information relevant to our plant and the commercial laundry industry. FDR Services standard policy is to meet or exceed all OSHA requirements for the protection of our employees who may have exposure to blood or other potentially infectious materials.
Exposure Control Plan Compliance Methods - In order to prevent contact with blood or other potentially infectious materials we continually observe Universal Precautions. Universal Precautions apply to all employees who come into contact with soiled healthcare linen and/or carts or bags that store and transport soiled healthcare linen. According to the concept of Universal Precautions all employees are required to handle and treat all soiled healthcare linens as potentially hazardous regardless of the source. All FDR employees are required to wear masks, gloves and gowns/uniforms before performing functions which bring them in contact with soiled linen. To facilitate the implementation of controls and isolate the bloodborne pathogen hazards from most areas, the clean and soiled linen is kept separated by a functional barrier wall. The worksite is maintained in a clean and sanitary condition. The soil room, washroom, bins and equipment are all cleaned and disinfected on a daily basis.
