Company OverviewThe FDR Group began operating in 1973 as a laundry facility, providing cleaning and processing of nursing home residents' personal clothing. As its reputation within the healthcare industry grew, FDR Services Corp. made its first major acquisition and purchased its first plant in 1977. In order to accommodate continued expansion, a second laundry plant was opened in 1979. In the next nine years, the company continued its growth. FDR steadily increased its market share and geographical service area. In 1988, The FDR Group opened its new corporate headquarters in Hempstead, NY, within the largest state-of-the-art linen rental plant at that time in the Northeast. This would be the first of many to come. (This facility is currently being leased by Angelica.) In 1989, The FDR Group entered into the hospitality division and formed the American Eagle Corporation. A dedicated plant was developed to cater to needs of the hospitality industry. This plant reinforced FDR's commitment to addressing the needs of the hospitality industry. In 1993, The FDR Group opened their first southern plant in Pompano Beach, Florida. Three years after the Florida plant had begun operating, FDR, established two additional plants in Rome, Georgia and Front Royal, Virginia. The FDR Group has focused its services towards the needs of individual marketplaces by catering to large chains of healthcare networks as well as five-star hotels. Between the years of 1993 to 1998, FDR continually experienced organic growth greater than twenty-five percent each year with yearly increased profitability. Our strategy was to achieve organic growth through complete loads, good wash quality and high customer satisfaction. The entire history of FDR is one of organic growth with profitability. Our team proved its ability to function on all aspects of the industry because we knew how to manage the process of organic growth. This was all accomplished by providing the marketplace with a personal service approach. FDR was a family run business that was able to exceed the expectations of the National Accounts and brought a superior level of service to new market places. This created a challenge for the national competitors. With the increased growth and new markets, In 1998 FDR was approached by a venture capital company named Aurora Capital to be the flagship of a national roll-up of laundries (Tartan Textiles). FDR agreed to sell the operations and to retain ownership of the real estate with a long-term lease. After the roll-up it was evident that the level of laundry experience and the management team Aurora put in place was not going to succeed in the long run. Individually and as a family, we at FDR decided to distance ourselves from Tartan Textiles and Aurora. While away from the laundry industry for seven years, we remained in the Healthcare industry in various ventures including, real estate and medical supply distribution. The one resounding thing that we always heard was, “When are you getting back in the business?” So in 2004, the FDR Group made it first venture back into the laundry business with the purchase of National Linen’s Pompano Beach, FL plant. In 2005, The FDR Group was re-introduced in the healthcare marketplace in order to instill the quality standards they have represented in the industry for over the past thirty years. The FDR Group acquired back Tartan Textiles remaining three operating plants in New Jersey and Virginia. Since our re-emergence into the Healthcare laundry business, The FDR Group has shown growth of over thirty-five percent in our first few years of operation and we are encouraged by the future.
